BRILLIANT - Also known as round, it's the most poplar choice
for brides past and present.
PRINCESS - One of the newer cuts on the diamond scene, the
princess has intricate faceting for extra sparkle. Cutting-edge
brides favor its clean, contemporary lines.
EMERALD - While this rectangular shape may not have the
same brilliance factor of other shape [ due to fewer facets ],
its quiet elegance appeals to brides with a similar outlook.
RADIANT - This popular cut adds sparkle to the emerald shape
by having the underside cut with more facets like a round
diamond.
MARQUISE - This unique shape evokes grandeur. When cut
right, it can look larger than it actually is, making it a good
choice for sassy brides for whom size does matter.
OVAL - Recently experiencing a revival, the oval is perfect for
those who like the concept of a round cut are looking for
something a little different.
PEAR - Cut like a round stone but with an extra little bit at the
top, the pear shape is for brides who prefer to set trends rather
than follow convention.
HEART - Brides who wear their hearts on their ring fingers are
pure romantics for whom love conquers all. One caveat.
The hearts the least sparkly of all shapes.
DIAMOND SHAPES
SETTING STYLE
BEZEL - A metal rim with straight or scalloped edges fully
surrounds the perimeter of the stone.
HALF BEZEL - The metal rim partially surrounds the stone,
leaving parts of the diamond [ where the crown meets the
bottom half] exposed.
TENSION - A design in which the compression-spring pressure
of the shank holds the stone firmly in place, giving the
impression that it's floating.
PRONG - Involves fore to six claws that hold a stone firmly in
a metal head or basket. Prongs can be pointed, rounded, flat,
or V - shape.
CHANNEL - Popular for wedding bands, this setting sandwiches
a row of stones with no metal separating them between two
horizontal channels.
BAR - Can be applied around part or all of the ring, but instead
of channels holding the stones, thin vertical bars of metal
between stones secure them.
PAVE - Involving three or more rows flush small stones, the
pave is created with raised metal formed into beads that
secure the gems.
GYPSY - This setting sets the stone flush into a hole.
The metal is pressed and hammered around the stone's
perimeter to secure it.
